Two openings at GSI: Research Software Engineer & IT Technician for laser-fusion control projects, Darmstadt, Germany (Deadline: 09.03.2026)
The PHELIX laser facility at GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung (Darmstadt, Germany) is hiring for two positions within the ALADIN project on adaptive control of high-energy laser systems.
Both roles contribute to the development of next-generation laser architectures for fusion research.
1) (Senior) Research Software Engineer – Adaptive Laser Control
Duration: until May 2030
Start: as soon as possible
Application deadline: 09.03.
Focus
- Architecture and implementation of an advanced, automated laser control framework
- Integration of diagnostics and actuators into local control systems
- Practical testbed validation of the control framework
Profile
- MSc/PhD in physics, computer science, or engineering
- Strong Python and software architecture experience
- Background in scientific software development
2) IT Technician – Control System Infrastructure
Duration: 12 months
Start: as soon as possible
Application deadline: 26.02.
Focus
- Setup of the local IT network for our laser control test bench
- Integration of control PCs and high-throughput camera systems
- System administration, documentation, and user support
Profile
- Vocational IT training or relevant degree
- Experience with Linux/Windows administration and small-to-medium networks
- Hands-on, solution-oriented working style
