Postdoc position, Laser-plasma Interaction at High Intensity and Generation of Secondary Terahertz Sources, CELIA, Bordeaux, France (Deadline: 10.07.2025)

We have a fully-funded postdoc position at CELIA (Bordeaux University, France) on the theoretical and numerical modeling of the interaction of one or a train of tightly focused femtosecond laser pulses with matter, either in the non-relativistic intensity regime for high-repetition rate laser systems or in the relativistic intensity regime at low repetition rates.
One part of the project is to study the propagation of strongly focused pulses in transparent materials at moderate laser intensities and high repetition rate, and apply related performances to the production of intense terahertz (THz) pulses.
The second part of the project aims to explore the generation of giant THz pulses emitted by relativistic plasmas created from solid (foil and wire) targets. Although mainly oriented towards modeling activities and numerical simulations, the project also plans to validate theoretical models using experimental data acquired from CELIA’s laser facilities and/or from external collaborations.

The research will be carried out at the CEntre Lasers Intenses et Applications (CELIA) located at Bordeaux University, France, which develops research activities on ultrafast laser-matter interaction (https://celia-bordeaux.cnrs.fr/), from the terahertz to the gamma range, for numerous applications including the probing of dense plasmas, molecular spectroscopy or medical imaging.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in plasma physics or nonlinear optics with experience in high-performance computing.
