PhD position in Chemical Physics - Department of Ion Phyiscs and Applied Physics, University of Innsbruck, Austria (Deadline: 23.09.2026)

We are hiring a PhD student in Chemical Physics at the University of Innsbruck.
The main task of the PhD candidate is the construction of a cryogenic octupole ion trap for ion spectroscopy, in particular photodissociation spectroscopy and leak-out spectroscopy.
Desirable is a background in instrumentation, ideally mass spectrometry, electronics or computer aided design. Programming skills are also a plus.

The initial contract lasts until August 4, 2028. We expect to renew the contract beyond that date, provided adequate progress was achieved.
The dissertation agreement mentioned in the offer is usually signed before the start of the contract, i.e. the position usually starts with a 30 hours per week salary.
