Successful Laserlab-Europe Conference in Lisbon

From 27 to 29 May 2024, the Laserlab-Europe community gathered in Lisbon for the Laserlab-Europe Conference. During the conference, results and access highlights from the Laserlab-Europe V project were presented.

The first day started with a warm welcome by Luis Silva, President of the School Council of our host Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), and Sylvie Jacquemot, Laserlab-Europe Project Coordinator, greeting the attendees from all over Europe and the US in the halls of IST.

Over the course of the day, nine speakers provided fascinating insights in their current work, showcasing results and access highlights from the Laserlab-Europe project. The talks in both sessions, “Lasers for catalysis” and “Attoscience”, led to fruitful discussions over the course of the day.

The second day kicked off with an insightful session on “Lasers in a multi-instrumental world”: Here, the talks delved into three Horizon Europe-funded projects – ReMade@ARI, RIANA, and the soon-to-be-launched Lasers4EU, the successor to Laserlab-Europe – all of which are offering transnational access.

The subsequent sessions on “Lasers for oncology” and “Lasers for imaging and diagnosing life” featured presentations from eight distinguished speakers. These sessions sparked lively discussions, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas.

The last day of the Laserlab-Europe Conference focused on “Lasers and laser-based instruments for the future”, featuring presentations on lasers for fusion and the manipulation of laser-based secondary sources for enhanced EUV and x-rays, followed by intense discussions afterwards.

lle-conference_exhibition_small.jpgThe exhibition, showcasing cutting-edge solutions from nine innovative companies, was a highlight during the breaks. It provided a fantastic opportunity for attendees to explore the latest technologies and discuss potential future collaborations.

Thus, together with the exhibition, theLaserlab-Europe Conference has provided the perfect platform to discuss future joint activities by bringing together the participants in the project, the expert groups of Laserlab-Europe AISBL as well as medical and industrial partners.

We thank all speakers, exhibitors, attendees and contributors of our Laserlab-Europe Conference in Lisbon for your participation and the fruitful exchanges! And of course a special thanks to the Group for Lasers and Plasmas at Instituto Superior Técnico for organising the conference and hosting us.
