SUMMARY:2nd International Summer School on Structured Light and Matter
DESCRIPTION:The application process for the second edition of the International Summer School on Structured Light and Matter is now open! \nAfter the great success of the first LUMES Summer School in 2025\, which brought together international students who praised both the quality of the courses and the unique experience in Salamanca\, we are excited to launch this new edition. \nJoin us for a one-week school organized by the Structured Light and Matter Research Center (LUMES) at the University of Salamanca\, Spain. This program offers advanced training in three important research areas: structured light\, structured matter\, and light–matter interaction. What is structured light? How can quantum materials help to solve modern problems in energy storage and transport? Why have ultrashort laser pulses changed nanoscience? If you want to learn more about these questions and understand some of the most interesting challenges in optics\, materials science\, magnetism\, and quantum physics\, do not miss the LUMES Summer School! \nOver the 1-week course\, students will attend 11 specialized courses (36 hours in total)\, combining theory\, experimental sessions\, and keynote lectures delivered by international experts: \n\nAlison Yao (University of Strathclyde)\nBurkard Hillebrands (Technical University of Kaiserslautern)\nNuno M. R. Peres (University of Minho)\n\nThe program also includes social activities in Salamanca\, and a visit to the Centro de Láseres Pulsados (CLPU). \nThe school is intended for students in the final years of undergraduate studies in Physics\, Chemistry or Engineering\, as well as Master’s and first-year PhD students in related fields. All activities will be conducted in English. \nParticipation is limited to 15 students! Thanks to our sponsorship from Junta de Castilla y León\, the school has no registration fee\, and it also includes meals and accommodation for all registered students\, and offers travel grants to cover transportation to Salamanca for international students. Applicants can request these limited grants via their motivation letter during registration. \nThe school will take place from July 6th to 10th in Salamanca\, Spain. \nApplications are open until April 10th. \nFor more details (lumes@usal.es) and to apply\, please visit: \n2nd International Summer School on Structured Light and Matter (6-10 July\, 2026)

SUMMARY:Emergence of Coherence in Nonequilibrium and Structured Environments (eco-noise2026)
DESCRIPTION:Driving quantum many-body systems with an external source has been explored as a route to control the collective properties of quantum matter. Recently\, studies of cavity–matter hybrids have suggested that dynamical control need not be coherent: quantum or thermal noise from light inside an optical cavity can be used to passively control phases of matter. In this workshop\, we aim to merge these two communities that sit at different limits along the spectrum of dynamical control. \nThe central question we seek to address is: how can nonequilibrium and engineered environments\, ranging from laser driving to cavity-mediated noise\, be leveraged to enhance coherence in many-body quantum systems? In particular\, we are interested in exploring the boundaries of how fragile but useful phases of matter\, such as superconductivity\, magnetism\, and topological order\, can emerge at high temperatures beyond their natural equilibrium limits. \nThe goal of the workshop is to bring together leading experimentalists and theorists working at the interface of ultrafast pump–probe experiments\, nonequilibrium quantum many-body physics\, Floquet engineering\, quantum electrodynamics\, and ultracold-atom physics. By fostering dialogue across these fields\, the workshop aims to advance the state of the art in engineering coherence at high temperatures and to develop protocols to understand and characterize the observed phenomena and the notion of enhanced coherence itself.

From semiconductor photocatalysis and plasmon-induced hot electrons to enhanced electromagnetic fields enabling advanced sensing\, energy transfer\, polaritonics\, and nanoscale lasing. Bringing together experts in catalysis\, spectroscopy\, plasmonics\, and non-equilibrium physics\, the colloquium aims to spark new collaborations and fresh perspectives in this rapidly evolving field. \n
