Scope:

The second Laserlab Workshop on Data Handling and Open Data will take place at Instituto Superior Tecnico in Lisbon on Friday, 7 December 2018, within the framework of the Laserlab Network on Experiments and Operation (NEO), organised by Annie Klisnick (ISMO). The workshop is co-organised by the ELI Delivery Consortium.

Data management and open data are core concepts within Horizon 2020. Initiatives such as the Open Science concept and the adoption of the European Open Science Cloud Implementation Roadmap earlier this year imply that EU researchers will very soon have to work in an environment where data sharing, access and reuse are the norm. With the increasing amount, size and complexity of the data generated at laser research facilities, it becomes necessary for individual infrastructures to become proficient and invest more resources in data management. Simultaneously, there is a need for streamlining and standardising these procedures across the European facilities in order to enhance the services to the user community.

A first workshop was held in March 2017 in Berlin, where the concepts of data management and open data were introduced and discussed within our network. Both external experts and Laserlab partners presented examples of their experience and best practices in these issues. This workshop will build on the outcomes of the first workshop with a special focus on the strategy for data management applied by Laserlab-Europe partners and the Extreme Light Infrastructure. The programme includes talks by speakers from different communities. Participants are encouraged to contribute by sharing their experiences in data management and related topics.

Directions from Lisbon airport:
By underground: You can take the Metro (Red Line) which has a stop at the airport to "Saldanha". When exiting the train follow the signs to "Av. Duque de Ávila" and then to "Instituto Superior Técnico". This will bring you to the exit at the Arco de Cego garden which is one block from IST.
By taxi: IST is located about 10-15 minutes from the airport by car and a taxi ride from the airport should be around €10. Hint: Use the taxis outside the Departures area of the airport because the lines are usually shorter there.

Accommodation:
Please note that Lisbon is a very popular touristic destination all year round. Ensure your accommodation by booking early.
