Hackathon at UCL for learning to use microprocessors for lab monitoring applications.
Registration is free and the registration link is here: https://forms.office.com/e/cwW2qgmRjK
Want to learn to build your own kit? The first University College equipment Hackathon is for you.
The hackathon event will run at UCL Chemistry on the 7th and 8th of November supported by PSDI (https://www.psdi.ac.uk/)
The hackathon will be on using IoT devices and sensors within an experimental laboratory setting.
Example project ideas:
Recording the temperature of a reaction continuously. Could improve reproducibility of reaction?
Measuring water flow into an instrument. Could it be controlled accurately?
Report the VOC levels in a lab to the users.
Working with microprocessors, small sensors and servers you will have the chance to build a device to monitor laboratory equipment and conditions. You will gain hands on practical experience building and deploying IoT sensors to more accurately monitor your experiments, and improve your lab sustainability.
The hackathon will be held over the 7th and 8th of November in the Christhoper Ingold Building of the UCL Chemistry department (Starting around 11 on 7th and finishing around 5 on the 8th). Situated in Bloomsbury the department is within easy walking distance of both London Euston, Kings Cross and several tube stations.
All parts and electronics required (other than a laptop) will be provided with experienced staff there to help and guide. Lunch and refreshments will be provided on both days. Some funding is available to cover travel/accommodation.
Places are limited, to register follow this link: https://forms.office.com/e/cwW2qgmRjK
