SUMMARY:THRILL Workshop on Adaptive Optics Integration
DESCRIPTION:The THRILL Workshop on Adaptive Optics Integration will be held in conjunction with the upcoming LPA Special Workshop on “Intelligent Systems“ from January 13-16\, 2025\, at the University of Oxford. This in-person event will host a larger community interested in topics related to machine learning\, optimization\, automation\, and system integration in laser facilities\, featuring an enriching program with plenary talks\, discussion sessions\, and tutorials. \nThe workshop aims to cover the full spectrum of automation and intelligent control in high-power laser and laser plasma acceleration (LPA) facilities. \nThe scope encompasses both hierarchical viewpoints – including facility-level\, experiment\, and laser automation – and conceptual aspects such as advanced diagnostics\, storage and extended data access\, control system interfaces\, as well as feedback and tuning. \nAttendees will have the opportunity to present their work through poster contributions (click here to submit your abstract). Submissions are welcome related to all of the above topics\, including but not limited to: \n– Bayesian optimization for LPA parameter tuning\n– Machine learning approaches for real-time diagnostics\n– Adaptive feedback control systems for laser stability\n– Automated alignment and beam steering techniques\n– Data-driven modeling of plasma acceleration processes\n– AI-assisted simulations and diagnostics\n– Intelligent fault detection and predictive maintenance in LPA facilities \nA limited number of submissions may be upgraded to contributed talks upon availability. You can actively contribute to the conference organization via early registration (before October 1). By sharing your interests at registration\, you will help tailor the workshop program to better suit the community’s needs. For those interested\, an optional visit to the Extreme Photonics Applications Centre at STFC’s Harwell Campus will be arranged on Friday\, January 17. \nKey Information\nDate: January 13-16\, 2025\nLocation: Department of Physics\, University of Oxford\, Parks Rd\, Oxford OX1 3PU\, UK\nParticipation: Free of charge\nAbstract submission deadline: October 31\, 2024\nRegistration deadline: November 15\, 2024 (Limited to 100 participants) \nWebsite THRILL project >>

SUMMARY:Laserlab-Europe Talk: Laser-surface processing for green Hydrogen and energy storage applications
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Panagiotis A. Loukakos (IESL-FORTH) \nIn this talk I will present our recent work on the application of laser-surface processing in the fabrication of nanostructured metallic electrodes. These electrodes have been found to exhibit enhanced electrochemical properties and they have been used in water-splitting electrochemical cells where we have found that they produce almost 5 times as much Hydrogen when compared with flat metallic electrodes. The enhanced Hydrogen evolution reactivity and electrochemical properties are attributed to the concomitant enlargement of the electrode’s electrocatalytic area due to the nanostructured surface. The details of the experiments as well as the impact of applications of lasers in the energy and environmental sectors will be discussed. \n \n Watch the Talk\n \n \n \n \n \n This Laserlab-Europe Talk is coorganised by Laserlab-Europe\, Lasers4EU and 360Carla.
