Bridging the Scales Inside the Cell: Hands-On Workshop for Theoretical Biophysics
The cell contains a plethora of length and time scales: At present,
the
theoretical description and modeling of intracellular phenomena
requires considerable intuition.
In the past few years, several methods have been developed to achieve a
systematic multi-scale or integral approach to modeling cellular behavior.
These methods range from fluctuation-based analysis of molecular dynamics
simulations via reaction coordinates to specialized continuum solvers and
coupled simulation techniques for membrane-bound organelles, soft
interfaces, and protein condensates. So far, the application of these
methods is severely limited by their availability and difficulty of use.
This workshop is intended to alleviate this situation by an exchange of
methods across different
research groups, focused on German-Czech
collaboration. Invited speakers will not only share the description of
their methods but also their
implementation as well as a full hands-on tutorial enabling their use.
Participants in the workshop will therefore not only get an overview but
also the necessary tools and skills to perform
state-of-the-art
simulations of (sub)cellular phenomena. Moreover,
participation is free of charge and even includes lunch.
