ERC-funded PhD position in Rotational Spectroscopy at University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain

We have several PhD positions at the Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CiQUS) and University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) to work with rotational spectroscopy on the development of techniques for chiral detection and chiral recognition. The positions are funded by the ERC through the Consolidator Grant HydroChiral.

 

The study of chiral recognition in the gas phase will be addressed through the implementation and development of novel methods based on broadband rotational spectroscopy. These techniques allow for a precise determination of both the enantiomeric excess and the absolute configuration of a molecule, which are ultimately responsible for a specific biological activity. Likewise, the high resolution and sensitivity of rotation spectroscopy will be used to gain unprecedented insight on the role of water in chiral recognition. We are looking for candidates with a Master’s degree in Physics or Chemistry, a basic knowledge of spectroscopy, and an interest in the development of new experimental techniques.
