Postdoc Position Lab AstroChemistry, Harvard-Smithsonian, Cambridge, MA, USA

The Laboratory Astrochemistry Group at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian seeks a postdoctoral researcher to contribute an integrated experimental, theoretical, and astronomical effort to understand interstellar aromatic chemistry.  The laboratory studies will provide improved spectroscopic measurements of small organic rings and seek to identify the pathways by which these rings and other cyclic molecules are synthesized from acyclic species and how these rings evolve to more complex polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and ultimately two-dimensional graphitic structures. In turn, these studies will guide new astronomical observations. The successful applicant will be actively engaged in laboratory experiments primarily at centimeter wavelengths by Fourier transform microwave techniques, but measurements at millimeter wavelengths may also be performed in collaborative investigations. Direct participation in the astronomical aspect is encouraged, although the primary emphasis in the first year will be the laboratory experiments. This effort is funded by the National Science Foundation.  The successful candidate will be hired as a post-doctoral employee at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory.
