PhD position Greenhouse Gas Sequestration using Molecular Beams, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain

Open position to perform a PhD in experimental physical chemistry. The project is a joint effort of the Surface Science group at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the Nanophysics Lab-Green Chemistry group at the Centro de Física de Materiales (CSIC/UPV-EHU).

The main goal is to study the activation of CH4 and CO2 using a new experimental system, which combines state-of-the-art molecular beams with photoemission (XPS). We have recently shown (PCCP 26, 1770 (2024)) that this setup allows the simulation of high pressure reactions under UHV conditions. This unique system will allow our groups the study of surface reactions relevant for the energy transition, like the activation of greenhouse gases for clean energy fuels, with unprecedented levels of detail.

We search highly motivated candidates with a Master of Science degree in physics or physical chemistry with interest for learning, hands for experimental work, proficiency in English and social skills. We offer state‐of‐the‐art scientific opportunities, four years of contract with competitive salary and health insurance. The position is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science.

Interested candidates should contact Prof. Daniel Farias (daniel.farias@uam.es)
