Assistant Professor position in Molecular Physics at Université Le Havre Normandie, France (Deadline: 15.05.2025)

An Assistant Professor position will open at UniversitéLe Havre Normandie – Faculty of Sciences and
Laboratoire Ondes et Milieux Complexes, LOMC-UMR6294.

Teaching
The successful candidate will teach Physics at Bachelor and Master level, in particular in the Master on Energy.
He/she will also take progressively educational responsibilities. The Master on Energy is part of the « Graduate School
Material and Energy Sciences », supported by the Normand LabEx consortium EMC3.

Research
The recruited Assistant Professor will strenghten theactivity of the group « Reactive Processes » of LOMC on the
modelling of the elementary physico-chemical processes for energy, atmospherical and astrophysical applications.

A major activity of the group concerns the developpement of theoretical and numerical approaches – based on the multichannel quantum defect theory – of reactive collisions between electrons and molecular cations – dissociative recombination, ro-vibrational excitation, dissociative excitation. We apply these approaches in producing cross sections/ rate coefficients in broad ranges of energy/temperature, meant to be used in the collisional-radiative type modelling of ionized media and in the interpretation of measurements in storage rings. A second activity concerns the use of quantum chemistry and reaction dynamics methods in the study of atomic and molecular collisions in view of the modelling and of the interpretation of astrophysical observations.

The project of the candidate will join these activities, and he/she may propose novel/complementary research
perspectives. His/her research will concern fundamental aspects of collisions in order to improve/develop/renew the existing theoretical/numerical methods, as well as the production of rate coefficients for molecules abundant in the media of environmental or technological interest – the marine atmosphere, the planetary ionospheres, the interstellar space, the edge plasmas of the fusion reactors, etc.
